This Book Called HOOONK!

Writing HOOONK! was a blast, yet still challenging since it was my first venture into authoring. All of my story ideas come from my experiences with Levi and I focus on the ones that are part of learning how his body works and that have some silly elements to them.

Blowing your nose is boring, but counting to three, taking a deep breath, and turning your vocal cords into a foghorn adds a twist and makes it fun! You can see the light-hearted nature of Daddy as he tries to help Lionel get comfortable with getting those bubbles out of his nose. And Lionel…what a funny and cheery little person he is with his purple octopus in tow and bubbles forever coming out of his nose. He tries the steam and gets introduced to the nose sucker, neither of which are his jam.

There is a hint of adult humor in the story with an ever so slight reference to the movie Shaft, but it’s very slight to avoid going overboard…at least in this first story. The story is for kids and I also want adults to relate to it and connect with the message. When we read to our children, what we read is just as important as how we feel when we read. What I mean by that is when we read a story, it’s great when we relate to it or connect to the message, or, it creates a sense of nostalgia that takes us back to our childhood. I believe when the storyteller gets into it it creates interest and excitement that is contagious and brings kids into the story with you.

And with that, feel free to grab your copy of HOOONK! on Amazon or BookBaby. Yes, the obligatory sales mention was long overdue in this post.

Thanks for reading!
